Crowd sourced weather on the ground

These days you can pretty much get a forecast any time or place you need it; and with the Internet of Things already in process, pretty soon streams and rivers will be able to tell you their water level and condition.

What you can’t easily get is what it’s like on the ground and what it means to actual humans.  With localweb.is/weather-RX you’ll be able to see how rising river conditions are affecting people who live in your area, because they’ll be posting photo & video and commenting on what’s happening.

So if you enjoy hiking in the rain you can still go out for a day trip but know which segment of a trail collapsed due to a mudslide…and figure out an alternate route.

Sharing information on local trails

Located in the western central part of Bhutan, the city of Thimphu is home to around 100,000 people and has some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the region.

The localweb.is URL  /पैदल यात्रा (“walking tour” in Nepalese) is an example of how the local web could be used by visitors, new arrivals and long time residents of a city to share information and let it spread naturally over time.  With over two dozen day hikes in the surrounding area, a walking tour of Thimphu provides time and space for meditation / quiet thinking.
