On-demand running club                   (and cheering section)

Even though it’s something humans are genetically designed to do, running is one of the hardest sports there is.  There’s no hoop, goal, basket, or even a ball to focus on.  It’s just you, your legs and breathing in and out.

That’s why when you’re feeling uninspired it helps to have people to run with.  /runpartners is an easy way to connect with other runners nearby, talk shop, meet up for group runs, ask a question about nutrition, or get an update from near you on how construction is affecting your favorite routes.

People to help light the way

Malala Yousafzai is known as an advocate for the rights of girls and women, and her work to ensure access to education has inspired millions around the world.  But before she was on the global stage, she worked tirelessly in her hometown in Pakistan.  She advocated tirelessly and because of her, young women are able to attend school that otherwise wouldn’t be able to.

/rolemodels is a way for people to lead the way in their own hometown, their own neighborhood.  Connecting, organizing and supporting efforts to improve education, parks / green space, and public policy, these are all done by the unsung heroes of our local community.  /rolemodels can help recognize them and give future leaders inspiration for their own work.

A guide to the little things

Not all art lives in a museum or gallery.  While it may not inspire documentaries, books or essays, a chalk drawing, a carefully crafted adobe wall, or an iron sculpture that’s a couple of blocks over can change our mental or emotional landscape.  This art can give us room to breathe and to enjoy all of the little things in life.

/littleart can be used as a source of inspiration, a chance to get away from the day’s pressures, or a guide to plan your next walk around the neighborhood.

Writing inspiration

Whether you’re working on a novel, a memoir or a collection of short stories, when writer’s block strikes two of the most important things you can do are a) keep writing and b) get out of your head by connecting to other writers.  The localweb.is URL  /authors could be used to inspire or be inspired by writers on the next bloc or a neighborhood away.  Want to meet up?  Post a reply to suggest a place. Feeling shy but still want some feedback?  Message directly to the avatar of one of the participants to suggest a separate /u/authors (unlisted URL) and share your work in progress.
