The true sharing economy
One of the most absurd things about the suburbs is not that everyone has their own lawn to maintain, but that each person has their own lawn mower. A street with 50 lawns has 50 lawn mowers. This is great if you sell lawn mowers, but for home owners it’s silly and inefficient.
On localweb.is/mower-club, home owners have gotten together to share a couple of mowers. If you need to mow your lawn, simple check in to see who currently has one of the mowers, post that you would like to borrow it, then go over and borrow it. After you are done mowing, post that you have the mower. Now you become the holder of record and someone else can come and borrow it from you.
Not only do you not need to store a lawn mower that you only use every two weeks, but you get to meet your neighbors as well. When the mower eventually breaks, everyone just pitches in a few bucks to get a new one.
This is the true sharing economy in action.
We are building the local web and sharing a new way to use it each day.
