Local followup on sweeping change
When the tide turns on a national issue it’s important to follow up in your community to make sure that headlines lead to action and not just tweets.
With the Confederate flag soon to be coming down in South Carolina, activists can use that momentum to let others know in the community that it’s still unacceptable for private businesses as well.
By posting pictures of where the flag is still up on localweb.is/flag-sightings, on-the-ground activists will know whom to boycott or just subtly push in the right direction.
It’s also possible that pro-flag supporters can use the same URL to know who to give their business to. No doubt there will be some spirited discussions to be had, regardless of what you believe. But these are the debates that will happen among neighbors on the front-line and not in the overwhelming noise of twitter hashtags and clickbaiting bloggers.
We are building the local web and sharing a new way to use it each day.
